‘Silly’ to play City, Liverpool in 48 hours: Rodgers

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers said it was “ridiculous” that they had to go back to act against Liverpool only 48 hours after playing Manchester City considering the list of developing injuries at the club.
The side of the Rodgers accommodated Liverpool on Tuesday following their extraordinary 6-3 defeat by the Premier League champions on Boxing Day, when Leicester without a number of regular first teams.
“This is a ridiculous schedule, we all know it.
The player did not fully recover for 72 hours after the match so for us to play on Tuesday against Liverpool was ridiculous,” said Rodgers on Monday.
“We have to play games so there will be almost no physical work, only recovery work and then we will see some videos and get ready from there.” Ryan Bertrand did not appear at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday after turning his knees in warming up, while Jamie Vardy and Wilfred Ndidi were not taken from the Hamstring bench.
Ricardo Pereira, Caglar Soyuncu, Jonny Evans and Wesley Fofana are a number of other people who remain absent due to injury.
Rodgers added that his team was in a less favorable position because Liverpool had a weekend after delaying their boxing match against Leeds United to an opposition outbreak in the opposition camp.
“Liverpool haven’t played since our League Cup match (last week) so they would be able to bring players back.
That’s what we have to handle.
This is a big challenge for us, but it is a challenge we are ready,” he said.
“I think we can’t (make a lot of change).
In the last few seasons we can do that but we certainly won’t be able to do that.
Some players must go again.” Leicester is 10 in the league standings with 22 points from 17 matches, 19 points adrift of Liverpool in second place.
