LOS ANGELES: Simone Biles said on Monday the mental health problem that led to his dramatic withdrawal from several events at the Tokyo Olympics had begun before he arrived in Japan.
US gymnastic superstar caused a sensation at the Olympics last month after withdrawing from the final team of the team before withdrawing from competition throughout the individual.
Biles, 24, which are considered by many people as the biggest gymnasts of all time and have ended strongly to win some gold medals in Japan, saying he has resigned to prioritize his mental health.
In a video conversation with his mother released by Athleta sponsor on Monday, Biles said the problem was built from time to time.
“I won’t even say it starting in Tokyo.
I feel like it might be a little deeper than that,” Biles said.
“I think it’s just a stress factor.
It’s a bit built from time to time, and my body and my mind just say no.
But even I don’t know I will pass it until it happens.” Biles was hit by an attack “Twisties” in Tokyo – a potentially dangerous phenomenon that caused the gymnast to lose their taste while in the air.
He then returned to the Olympic arena to compete in the final beam balance, where he won bronze.
Biles said when he was disappointed he could not give a form that opposed the usual gravity at the biggest stage of all – he did not regret placing his health and salvation first.
“It just sucks.
Like, practicing five years, it doesn’t match what you want,” Biles said in the video.
“But I know that I help a lot of people and athletes talk about mental health and say no.
Because I know I can’t go there and compete.
I know I will be hurt.” Biles added he was surprised by a broad reaction to the withdrawal of competition in Tokyo.
“I clearly hope to feel a lot of counterattack and embarrassment,” he said.
“But it’s the opposite.
That’s the first time I feel humans.
Besides Simone Biles, I’m Simone, and the people respect him.” Texas said he hoped now the case would encourage others to ask for help if they were worried about their mental health.
“I know it’s not easy, but it really helps,” he said.
“And I know most of the time you are afraid you might feel stupid.
But as I have learned for years, it’s okay to ask for help.”
