New Delhi: Olympic-Tied Simranjit Kaur, Commonwealth Games Gold Medal Gaurav Solanki and World Championship Silver Winner Sonia Chahal has been nominated for Arjuna Award by the Indian federation.
SimRanjit (60kg) is the winner of the 2018 Bronze Championship and is among the four Indian women’s boxers who have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, starting next month.
Solanki (57kg) has won his CWG gold in the 2018 edition, while Chahal (57kg) claims his silver is the same year.
He is also a former national champion.
None of the two can make Olympic cuts.
“Three names have been resolved based on their performance over the past four years,” said Secretary General of BFI Hemanta Kalita to PTI.
Arjuna award brings Rs 15 lakh gift money.
The federation has also decided to nominate the assistant coach of Sandhya Gurung and the National Youth Head coach Bhaskar Bhatt for the Dronacharya award.
Last year, the World Championship Duo bronze winner from Manish Kaushik and Lovlina Borghain was given to Arjuna Award.
Monday is the last date to submit a nomination for national sports awards, given every year on August 29 at the birth of Dhyanchand’s main hockey legend.
Last year, 74 recipients were awarded with awards.
Gift money also increased significantly with the Khel Ratna award which received Rs 25 Lakh, Dronacharya (lifetime) RS 15 Lakh, and Dhyanchand Winner RS ​​10 Lakh.
