In accordance with the official statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister, the University will be established at Villages Salawa and Kaili City Sardhana in Meerut at a cost of around Rs 700 Crore.
One of the main areas of focus for the Prime Minister instilled sports culture and building world-class sports infrastructure in all parts of the country.
The establishment of Sports University Dhyan Chand Major in Meerut will be a big step to fulfill this vision, PMO said.
Sports University will be equipped with modern and sophisticated sports infrastructure including synthetic hockey soil, soccer land, basketball, volleyball, handball, kabaddi land, grass tennis court, gymnasium room, synthetic running stadium, swimming pool, versatile hall, and cycling velodrome .
It will also accommodate facilities for photographing, squash, gymnastics, weightlifting, archery, canoeing, and kayaks, among other facilities with training capacity of 1080 sportsmen including 540 women’s sportsmen and 540 men.
