Paris: Indian Double Olympic Medal PV Sindhu continued his impressive journey in the Badminton tournament open France by sailing to a single semifinal of the woman with a direct victory in Thailand’s Bukaran Ongbamrungphan on Friday.
Sindhu, third seed, indicated a convincing 21-14 21-14 victory in the eighth seed in 38 minutes to extend his head-to-head record which dominated against Thailand to 14-1.
The 26-year-old child from Hyderabad has beaten Bukaran in Denmark Open too, last week.
Sindhu, a ruling world champion, defeated the Danish channel Christophersen, ranked 24th in the world 21-19 21-9 at the end of Thursday night to enter his residence.
The world number seven India will now cross the sword with the Japanese world number 15 Sayaka Takahashi in the last four on Saturday.
However, Run Lakshya Young Sen ended in the men’s singles quarter-final after he lost 17-21 15-21 to Heo Kwanghee Korea in 43 minutes.
The 20-year-old from Almora has recorded a comfortable match victory over Singapore’s Loh Mentorean to take place in the last eight.
The men’s doubles pair of Satwikaraj Ranking and Chirag Shetty also could not pass through the obstacles of the quarter-finals, losing 21-18 18-21 17-21 to the fourth seed Malaysia Combine from Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.
On Thursday, Satwik and Chirag beat Mr.
Arjun and Dhruv Kapila 15-21 21-10 21-19 in a clash of all Indians to reach the quarter-finals.
It was a clinical look by Sindhu in the quarter-finals as he increased the advantage of 5-1 at first before moving to 11-6 at rest.
He continued the same tone after the interval, jumped to 18-7 in the end bagging the opening game comfortably.
The second game turned out to be a battle close to Sindhu and Bukaran involved in a fierce battle.
However, Sindhu broke up 8-8 to take advantage of two points at the interval.
Sindhu once again stepped after a break to rise to 16-10 and 20-12.
Bukaran saved two match points before Sindhu sealed the contest.
Sourabh’s Single Player Verma, however, bowed from the competition after losing 12-21 9-21 to Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto in the second round.
