Panaji: The country witnessed more than six children’s harassment cases every week in the third quarter of the current year.
A total of 109 cases of child abuse have been reported where 77 against children and 33 are boys between July to September 2021.
The highest number of child abuse cases was reported at the Police Station Mapusa (24), followed by the Calangute Police Station (10) and Eight at the Women’s Police Station.
The least number of cases have been registered in Margao, Agasaim, Anjuna, Quepem and Saligao.
The case of sexual harassment among teenagers is the highest in the state, followed by domestic violence, kidnapping, the attack and crime of cyberspace, according to the victim assistance unit report (VAU).
VAU was founded in April 2014 and has succeeded in completing six years providing 24×7 services to children who face the police and who come to the unit directly.
Vau Coordinator Emidio Pinho said that in addition to handling abuse cases, units have also carried out various training and awareness sessions for various stakeholders.
A few months ago, Chairman of the Minister of Pramod Sawant pulled sharp criticism on the social media platform and demanded an apology that jumped after he said at home that teenagers, especially children underage, could not “spend the night on the beach”.
He also said, “When a 14-year-old child lives on the beach all night, parents need introspection.
Only because children do not listen, we cannot place responsibility to the government and the police.” He refers to Gangrape from two small girls at Benaulim Beach.
Last week, Sawant said that the state government would soon take more steps to ensure women’s safety and safety.
He said that the government was thinking of having a pink power to deal with crimes against women.
While he said that he was annoyed when the crime committed to women in the state, the minister’s head stated that Goa led other countries where crime detection was concerned.
“Goa has a 93% crime detection rate.
One can compare this with other countries.
We will take more steps towards women’s safety and security in the coming days,” he said.
