Thiruvananthapuram: The law enforcement authority in the district has recorded an increase in alleged suicide among victims of sexual harassment in tribal settlements in the countryside district.
While the new rural SP Divya V Gopinath has been looking for a report on this death from his subordinates concerned, the Excise Ministry has begun talks to launch awareness campaign among tribal youth because it has been noted that substance abuse is also a factor in many of these deaths.
.On Tuesday, a 18-year-old Dalit woman believed to have died by hanging himself in Vithura after he felt cheated by her boyfriend of four years.
The police have arrested his girlfriend in connection with this case.
Similarly, Vithura police arrested two young men last month for allegedly abusing two small-owned community girls and finally leading them to commit suicide.
Parents of one of the victims have now alleged that their daughter abuse even made him substance.
Raman’s social activist, who works among Dalit and tribal youth, said that there were eight cases of suicide experiments among teenagers to the SC and ST community in the past two months.
Among them, six died and two survived.
A 17-year-old boy also exists among the people who died.
“While in the case of a girl, sexual abuse is a factor that encourages them to commit suicide, in the case of the boy, we suspect that the mental problem caused by substance abuse is the reason,” Raman said, adding that it was a matter of concern that Drug vendors from other regions attract tribal youth into the substance addiction trap.
Most of the deaths were recently reported below the limits of the police station and Vithura.
The limit of the Paloda police station with 192 tribal settlement colonies is the most vulnerable area.
This is a difficult task for law enforcers or activists to cover all of these colonies regularly, he said.
