Coimbatore: Officials Directorate of Income Intelligence (DRI) captured six leaflets that landed at the city airport with gold more than 6 kg, which they smuggled to the country hidden in trousers and underwear from Sharjah, in early Friday.
The golden value seized was pegged at Rs 2,99,16,042.
Officials attached to the Coimbatore DRI regional unit said they had led to an offer of gold smuggling and based on that they had intensified checking at the airport.
An official said Six had ridden Air Arabia from Sharjah and landed in the city at 3.50 am on Friday.
“We fricked them completely and by the end of the restoring gold they hide in jeans and underwear.
We have won 6kg gold and 117g from them.” The official said Six had melted gold and raised the same thing on their underwear and underwear with the help of some chemicals.
“Weigh 7kg and 907g with chemicals.
We process it and separate gold later.
