Chennai: About 63% of city active cases come from six Tondious Zones, Royapuram, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Adyar.
Of the 7,878 active cases in the city on January 5, 4,991 cases come from six zones according to the last zone data available from City Corporation.
Between December 30 and January 5, active cases in TondairPet and Royapuram rose five times, while zones such as Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Adyar saw a quadrupled increase.
Officials say these zones can contribute to higher cases for two reasons: one, because of the focused and second testing, the second dose vaccination coverage can be lower than the city average.
While the city has vaccinated 70% of its eligible population, only 44% included in the Target, 66% in Royapuram, 60% in Anna Nagar, 49% in Teynampet, 56% in Kodambakkam and 61% in Adyar.
Dr.
Prabhdeep Kaur, Deputy Director of the National Epidemiology Institute, said the pattern of increases in similar cases throughout the world and the same thing was expected in the city.
“We need to look at the severity of infection and focus on early diagnosis and treatment of symptomatic people.
With multiple vaccination, low severity risk.
So, ensure full vaccination coverage,” he said.
Dr.
Subramanian Swinathan said only a hard locking that could help slow down the Covid trajectory, but it might cost economic costs.
