Coimbatore: The iconic skywalk arch steel that helps thousands of students from the PSG Institute to cross busy Avinashi roads to close to 15 years ready to be dismantled in a few weeks.
Skywalk will make the road for Avinashi Jalan Flyover, which is said to be the longest in the Skywalk State. The in the Peellamedu designed and carried out by Civil Engineering students from PSG College of Technology in 2007, following a failed offer by making concrete structures in place the same one.
The bridge, which is displayed in many videos in Coimbatore, is considered by many people as one of the city landmarks.
For many students from the PSG Institute, it is emotional.
“Watching a vehicle passing under the bridge on the rainy day and walking on the bridge as sunset is some memories of my moments,” said C Pavithra, the second alumnus of the PSG College of Technology and the PSG Institute of Management.
Pavithra, who lives in the nearest area, also remembers the utility from Skywalk on his student day.
“Without a bridge, it will be a nightmare to cross Avinashi the road during rush hour.
I still remember how I used to walk in Skywalk without worrying about traffic to reach the classroom during the exam after learning until the last minute.
” More than day-ulama, hostelers are often used by skywalk as they go here and come here from PSG College of Technology for their hostels behind the PSG Institute of Management on the other side of the road.
Usha Parathasarathy, 47, a businessman and alumni from the PSG Institute of Management, said the bridge would get more visitors in the coming days.
His daughter, who graduated from PSG College of Technology last year, has spent some time with his friends on the bridge on Sunday after they learn about plans to bring down. The bridge so close to the institution that students have been named their online magazine as’ The Bridge ‘, with its image in the background.
The Skywalk’s idea came to prevent students from becoming a victim of an accident on the road at busy Avinashi Road.Dismantling bridges could not be avoided, because it was completed by the way of the flyover project, said a senior highway department official.
