Udhagamandalam: Slotter bears who have roamed around the villages near Kotagiri in Nilgiris were arrested on Saturday.
The animal was seen several times around the village of Milithane, Kerkambai and Indra Nagar in the past month.
Based on complaints from villagers, forest officials set up a cage two weeks ago at Milithan to arrest the animal.
Finally, the Sloth Bear was trapped in the cage in the early hours on Saturday.
Meanwhile, bears damage the cage in an effort to escape.
Officials carry another cage and shift animals in it.
“The Sloth Bear will be released into the Korakunda forest near the upperbhavani immediately,” said Saravanakumar, assistant forest conservator.
