Letter: The Western Railway (WR) will develop an integrated shipping network in the city and a smaller train station nearby.
It targets the city textile industry for transportation businesses for which facilities will be developed at this smaller train station.
The announcement was made by GVL Satya Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, Wr on Monday.
Kumar was in town to check the development work at the city train station.
It was his first visit to the mail train station since MP letter Darshana Jardosh became the State Minister of Union for the train.
“We have handled around 70,000 tons of textile goods from the city.
However, the train gets around 5% of the total items transported,” Kumar said.
“We are trying to improve our business in transporting textile items from letters.
The train will increase the shipping facilities at a smaller train station such as Gangadhara, Udhna, Bardoli and Chalthan for that purpose,” Kumar added.
The train authority plans to get items sent at these stations where the textile production cluster is currently located.
It will also reduce the movement of transportation vehicles within city limits, clearly train officials.
“Railroad transportation has always been a favorable choice in terms of costs, but we must depend on road transportation for shipping at the destination.
The train can take goods to the train station, most of the city, but there are no facilities to transport material from the train station In the city to the nearest city, “said Manoj Agarwal, President, Federation of Letter Textile Traders Association (Fostta).
In a recent meeting with train officials, Fostta discussed this transportation issue and asked the train to provide the last mile connectivity.
Meanwhile, to curb smuggling liquor on the train will strengthen the CCTV network in and around the mail train station.
At present, the train station has a network of 40 CCTV cameras.
Railroad officials say that 86 other CCTV cameras will be added at the end of August.
