Smart City Pedestrian Underpass will be extended

Mangaluru: pedestrian underpass, which is being built near the clock tower in the city, extended, for people’s convenience.
Underpass 10 meters, which is being built in accordance with the DPR before to cross the Nehru Maidan Road, approaching the completion.
The next work phase has begun to extend the length of the underpass, so pedestrians can pass through the stretch of Tower Rao and Rao Circle-Clock.
The main features of underpass include several entry points or exit on both sides of the road, access paired with stairs and roads to be physically challenged, the renovation of Gandhi Park to Plaza, producing commercial potential by dedicating space for kiosks, and conditions for commercial advertising and murals describe the heritage of the city along the underpass wall.
With the first phase of the underpass to cross the Maidan Nehru road near the Mini Vidhan Soudha approaching the settlement, Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) has taken the second phase of work.
In this phase, the underpass will be extended further, for pedestrians to cross Rao and Rao Circle-Clock Tower stretch.
Those who enter the pedestrian underpass from the entry point in the Mini Vidhan Soudha can pass two roads, so the two work phases are complete.
The Mayor of Premanand Shetty informed the Mangaluru City Corporation Mangaluru (MCC) meeting on Thursday that the decision to extend pedestrian underpass was taken at the MSCL Board of Directors meeting.
In fact, opposition leaders at Council A C Vinayaraj showed that work in the second phase of underpass was not scientific, and the underpass height increased five feet above Rao and Rao Circle-Clock Tower Road.
He also shows that it will be difficult to build access points on the north side of the road.
He also blamed MSCL, that the extension was not part of the initial plan of pedestrian underpasses.
Shetty, who is also the MSCL Director, said that it was planned beforehand, but was not taken because of cost factors.
“Initially, only one phase of work was taken, considering the project costs.
Recently, the MSCL Board Meeting decided to start the second phase,” he added.
