Social media companies must do more to overcome online harassment: Thierry Henry

Lisbon: Former French soccer player Thierry Henry slammed the social media giant on Tuesday, said they were not enough to overcome online misuse because he quit the platform earlier this year in protest for the lack of their actions to fight racism and intimidation.
Henry, who has 15 million followers on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, disables his account in March, calls the platform to overcome online misuse with the same effort as they do to reduce copyright.
Now, about six months since he waste social media, the 44-year-old Arsenal and Barcelona player, who suffered racial harassment during his play career, said the same things and that he might never be reactive to his personal account.
“Those (social media companies) do not do anything near what is needed for us to feel safe on it – let’s be honest,” Henry told a press conference at the Lisbon web summit.
“This is an important tool in the world that we live in but can it be safe? That’s a big thing.” Although Henry did not want to return to social media, he joined the Puma sports company to come up by overcoming online harassment, including a platform that encouraged people to do good by doing tasks, from the petition to protest.
Dylan Ingham’s creator platform describes it as a “social action tool box”.
Instagram announced in February a series of steps to overcome online and twitter harassment say in 2019 that “vile content” has no place on its platform, but experts have warned that the global nature of the problem makes it difficult to take legal steps to the law perpetrator .
Henry said he wanted to make sure the young black people followed their dreams and were not delayed by what was called ‘troll’.
“That’s my message: You should not be stopped by those people,” Henry said.
“If you feel like you don’t belong, you belong to …
no one can stop you doing something you want.”
