New Delhi: At least 13 people were killed in twin suicide bombings near Kabul airport on Thursday night, where thousands of people flocked when they tried to escape from the takeover of the Afghan Taliban.
The attack was only hours after several Western governments had warned the strike of terror which was possible near Kabul airport and urged people to stay away from the area.
This is what we know so far …
* At least 13 people, including children, have been killed in attack while several other injured.
* The source told Reuters at least four US military officials was among the victims.
The AP quoted a US official said that several marines were killed and a number of other American military were injured in the attack.
* The surgical hospital run by Italian charity said it treats more than 60 injuries.
* Pentagon said the explosion at the Abbey gate was the result of complex attacks that resulted in a number of our lives and civilians.
It also confirms another explosion in or near Baron Hotel, a short distance from Abbey Gate.
* A US official said the attack outside Kabul Airport was “definitely believed” carried out by Afghanistan affiliates of the Islamic State, known as the Islamic State of Khorasan (ISIS-K).
* Taliban condemned the attack at the airport but said it happened in the area where US forces were responsible.
“As soon as the airport situation is known and foreign troops go, we will not have such an attack.
That’s because the presence of foreign troops that such an attack happened,” said Abdul Qaahar Balki.
* A source related to witnesses by text messages quotes that the witness said there seemed to be two separate attacks but simultaneously, one by suicide bombing near the bus lined outside the monastery gate, where the explosion was followed by a small arm of fire.
* The second happened at the Baron Gate, named after the nearest Baron Hotel.
The source, talking to the terms of anonymously, citing testimony said that children belong to the victim.
* President Joe Biden has been complained by the attack, the White House said.
He was forced to postpone his meeting with Israel PM Naftali Bennett because of the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan.
* France President Emmanuel Macron said the situation was very tense around the airport.
He said talks were taking place with the Taliban about this problem.
* Macron also said the French ambassador would not remain in Afghanistan.
* The British government has called a crisis meeting after the airport explosion.
