Kolkata: Train services in the Ranaghat-Lalgola Division Seacdah section are disturbed for more than 24 hours because of the obstruction by parts of people at the Station HaltHali in Nadia Regency, demanding the termination of all the trains that passed it, an East Railway official said on Wednesday.
The agitators, who have squatted on the track since Tuesday morning, claimed that the population of around 15 villages in the area depends on the train service from the station, but only a few trains stop there.
“We held discussions with the agitators to lift protests so that the service was normalized,” said a spokesman for Ekalabya ​​Chakraborty.
He said that Jalalkhali became a stop station, it was unlikely that all trains would stop there.
Chakraborty said that the agitators had been offered to terminate several more trains at the stopping station.
He said that 12 local residents emu on the route – Krishnanagar and at least two express trains connecting Seacdah and Lalgola were canceled on Wednesday due to agitation.
At least six pairs of local residents were stopped short at the Badkulla station and were short from there to Seacdah, he said.
“People around 15 villages depend on the station, but we have to travel to Badkulla or Krishnanagar to take advantage of the train because only a few stops in Jalaludhali,” said one agitator.
He stressed that agitation would be appointed only on the promise of the termination of all trains past the stopping station.
