Someone was arrested for racial crime against Sikh taxi drivers in New York

A man was arrested for an attack on January 3 in the Sikh taxi driver at JFK Airport, the Port of the New York Police Department and New Jersey (PAPD) said on Friday night.
Mohamed Hassanain shouted, “back to your country” and called the taxi driver (identified only as Mr.
Singh to preserve his anonymity) “Turban people” in a humming way while repeatedly punching and pushing him, leading the police to consider the incident of Crime hatred.
Hassanain was being charged with attacks at the third level as a racial crime, attack on the third level, and harassment that was exacerbated at the second level, and will be charged on Saturday.
Singh, asked for privacy, said he was grateful to law enforcement, Sikh coalition – an organization that supports it in his legal battle – and everyone in the community “who has offered their strength in a difficult time”.
“No one will experience what I do but if they do it, I hope they receive a large amount of extraordinary support and fast and professional actions by the authorities in response,” he said in a statement.
Amrith Kaur Aakre, Director of the Sikh Coalition Law, said they were grateful to the Port Police Department of the Port Authority and the District Prosecutor’s Office for their rapid action for this case, and to recognize that the attack on the anti-Sikh bias was clear.
“This case underscores the importance of sharing all the details of this such attack with law enforcement.
Holding the perpetrators responsible for their actions and their hatred motivation is the clearest way to show that the legacy and violence that burned has no place in our community.” Sikh coalition said Will continue to help Singh in its correspondence with law enforcement and ensure that all relevant details are conveyed between all parties.
“In addition, we thank you for the support of the New York City Police Department of Hatred Hatreda in this case,” Sikh coalition said in a statement.
Sikh in the United States continues to experience biases and attacks driven by hate because of the budget of their identified faith (including unhorn turbans and hair) and perceptions of their home countries, the Sikh coalition said in the statement.
According to the latest FBI data, Sikh remains in the top three groups that are most widely targeted for crimes of religious-motivated ratios and bias incidents in the US.
In the experience of the Sikh coalition, taxi drivers, and Rideshare, in particular, at high risk of violent attacks.
“In recent years, we have provided free legal assistance for some Sikh drivers who are attacked throughout the country, and we continue to provide your knowledge resources proactively to help the community stay safe,” said the organization.
