Nagpur: Sanctions four years ago, the Sonegaon RS 18.2CR beauty project is likely to be completed in a year.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has planned Nakshatra Park, Pergolas, walking routes and other works to add to the beauty of the lake spread across 16.42 hectares.
Minister of Nitin Gadkari and opposition leader Devendra Fadnivis performed the Bhomi of Puja from the project on Saturday.
The Mayor of Dayashankar Tiwari, Commissioner of the City of Radhakrishnan B, MLC and the President of the City of MLC and BJP Pravin Datke, Chairman of the Committee remained Prakash Bhoyar and others were also present.
Following the Demand of the BJP Sandip Joshi and BJP Company, Fadnavis, has gave sanctions on the project in July 2017.
However, construction cannot be started because of the controversy over the ownership of the lake and some other problems even though the funds are available with Civic NMC officials told toi that the design is ready .
“Private contractors have been appointed for construction and he has a 1-year deadline to solve it,” they said.
At that time, the lake had a walking line and several benches on the east side walked on the south side.
As designed, two entrance gates will appear on the east side.
Next, there will be two parking areas, pergola, sitting arena, greenery, bathroom etc.
Nakshatra Park will be developed on the south side.
The project spotlight will be embankments and running lines, and new green on the west and north.
The official NMC said the embankment and the route on the north side would be completed in the available RS 18.2 Crore funds.
“We will look for more funds from the government for the construction of embankments and the route running on the west side soon,” the official said.
Constructed in the 18th century, this is the first time the lake is adjusted.
In the 1990s, there was an attempt to fill the lake.
Former Minister of Union Vilas Muttemwar, Gadkari, activists including Gopal Thosar, Narayan Ahuja, Naidu and others took efforts to save the body of the water.
In 2010, the government had sanctioned funds from RS 3.24 Crore to rebuild the lake used to build an artificial idol soaking tank, overflow system, embankment and desilting.
Then, Joshi and Bhoyar have done de-sable by raising funds from various sources.
Gadkari said the park would be developed at the airport and also food malls on NMC land.
“Now, it is the responsibility of people to care for the lake by preserving work and avoiding polluting it,” he said.
