Hyderabad: Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and MBDA, England will establish facilities for final assembly, integration and test (FAIT) from short-term air-to-air missiles (Asraam) in India.
BDL and Mbda, England on Tuesday signed a license agreement to establish manufacturing facilities in India.
The agreement was signed by the NP in Shakar, Director (Technical), from BDL and George Kyliakides, director of international industrial cooperation from Mbda with the commodore Siddharth Mishra (RETD), CMD, BDL at a virtual ceremony.
P Radhakrishna, Director (Production), BDL, N Srinivasulu, Director (Finance), BDL and senior officials from the two companies were also present on that occasion.
Under the license agreement, MBDA will transfer equipment and knowledge to BDL to assign facilities.
The work of building this ability in India will begin immediately and is expected to start operations by 2022-23.
Commodore Siddharth Mishra (RETD), CMD, BDL said the signing of the license agreement strengthened the company’s commitment to contribute to the ‘Make in India’ and the ‘Atmanirbhar’ initiative in the government in the defense sector.
Asraam is one of the visual span missiles available and BDL will produce this in the Bhanur unit for domestic needs and also export in the future through MBDA.
This new facility will provide India with the ability to assemble the final, integration and test of Asraam missiles.
“BDL has tried to enter into a tie with foreign OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) in pursuing an expansion program.
The agreement signed with MBDA today, is one such effort, which will be very helpful in strengthening further collaboration., BDL which one is BDL has for MBDA for various missile programs, “BDL said.
George Kyliakides, Director of the Mbda International Industry Cooperation, said Mbda had a long and very successful history of BDL for more than four decades, the partnership who had seen BDL produced a large number of Milan missiles designed by Mbda in India.
The agreement to determine the following facilities of the previous memorandum of understanding (MoU) between BDL and MBDA in Fait Asraam was signed during 2019.
The new BDL Asraam facility will have the potential to also carry out the maintenance, improvement and repair of the Missile Asraque (MRO).
This facility can also be adapted to conduct a final assembly, integration and Mbda camm missile test.
CAMM is a missile used by the Sea Ceptor Navy Air Defense System that has been offered as a short distance surface to air missile requirements (SRSAM).
Asraam, visual air dominance weapons, is a new generation of close combat missiles.
