SRINAGAR: National Conference president and former Jammu and Kashmir minister Farooq Abdullah Tuesday expressed regret that it did not participate in the 2018 panchayat polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
National Conference did not participate in the panchayat polls held in September 2018 and boycotted the Block Development Council (BDC) polls held in 2019 after the revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the parliamentary outreach program to strengthen Parliament Raj Institutions (PRI), Abdullah exudes confidence that soon the government will be formed in J & K that will make officials accountable to the people.
Asked the Governor Lieutenant Manoj Sinha, who was present at the podium, to provide security for panchayat leader, Abdullah said they were being targeted by terrorists.
“The politicians who stand by the country is the target of the terrorists and it was for the state to protect them,” he said.
Speaking of local polls held in September 2018, the National Conference leader said, “I regret that my party did not participate in the panchayat polls”.
Abdullah revealed her suffering that government officials from the government of Jammu and Kashmir “do not pick the phone as if some ghost hanging over them”.
He asked Sinha officials instructed answer phone calls from people.
“Soon government will be established in Jammu and Kashmir will make government officials accountable to the people, “Abdullah said.
