Chennai: Southern Railway has continued nearly 92% of services and took steps to strengthen his health infrastructure to combat the third wave of Covid-19, General Manager John Thomas told Sunday.
After stretching Tricolor to mark the 75th Independence Day, Thomas in his I-Day speech said, “Passenger traffic was greatly affected by 2020-2021.
However, this year we run almost 92% of our pre-covid services and have 64 million passengers from April to July 2021.
“He added that the speed of the train had increased in more than 14 parts from April 2020 to 2021 July and that would increase in nine more parts soon.
“At 2020-2021, the speed of the nine-section loop line is enhanced and 27 restrictions on permanent speed relax.
Our train has also exceeded the target of the train board in deep screening, turns off updates and welding updates,” Thomas said.
During 2020-21, doubled in seven parts.
“During the first quarter of 2021-22 we finished the Andipatti-Theni section of the Madurai-Bodinahuran Performance Conversion Project, the Tambaram-Guduvanchere section of the Tambaram-Chengalpet Third Line project and the Milavittan section would be assigned soon.” Timeliness has also increased.
“The percentage of the timeliness of the zone for April-July 2021 is 97.6%, the second best among all Indian improvement zones.” The effect of enhanced infrastructure was seen by the increase in the speed of the goods to 50.7kmph for the first three months of 2021-22, he added.
Thomas said the separate pediatric ward for Covid-19 was being developed at the train hospital in layers and that management has ensured adequate stock of drugs to treat covid and mukormycosis.
Covid vaccination is now available in all train hospitals and more than 83,000 doses have been provided so far at the train facilities in the zone, he said.
