CHENNAI: Southern Railway increases solar energy generation in the forthcoming years by putting plants up on empty fresh railroad property and on land along with paths.
The panels on railroad land will probably have approximately 67 MWp capability whereas the panels which are going to be installed along the trail will create 40 MWp.
The zone also has recognized 268 acres of empty property and 169 acres of land along with the trail, according to a media release.
The transfer is part of Indian infantry’ effort to boost utilization of renewable energy and to reduce carbon footprint by raising power of solar energy plants and by putting up windmills throughout the nation.
Indian Railways has set approximately 114 MW of solar rooftop plants within over 1,000 channels and 400 service buildings.
The strategy would be to be zero net carbon emitter from 2030, the release added.
In Southern Railway, solar energy panels have been set up in railroad stations and other places such as MGR Chennai Central, MMC complicated, Katpadi, Tambaram, Mambalam, Guindy and Chengalpet suburban stations, offices of divisional railway manager at Trichy and Madurai, main workshop supervisor’s office in Trichy Golden Rock workshop, in level crossing gates at Nagercoil-Thiruvananthapuram department, telecom & signal workshop in Podanur, Salem Jn, Namakkal, Tiruppur.
It has helped the zone reach a savings to the tune of Rs 13.25 crore on grip to operate rents and Rs 1.77 crore non-traction electricity bills throughout the calendar year 2020-21.
The complete capability of solar energy plants set up from Southern Railway is currently 4.85 MWp.
Of them, 3.985 MWp solar panel has been set up beneath power purchase arrangement mode and 0.865 MW was set up departmentally.
Windmill plants are installed at Kayathar close Gangaikondan or even Kadambur railroad stations in Tuticorin district beneath Madurai branch of Southern Railway.
The complete capacity of end mill crops at Southern Railway is currently 10.5 MW setup at a price of Rs 72 crore.
