Lucknow: SP on Saturday decided to serve Narendra Verma, Mla six times from the Mehmudabad assembly chair in Sitapur District, as a party candidate for the representative poster.
The selection for post is scheduled to be held on Monday.
SP announced his candidate for the deputy position of the speaker has required elections because now only the BJP ruler announces the name Nitin Agarwal as his candidate.
Agarwal coincidentally became SP MLA who joined BJP in 2018.
He continued to become SP MLA because the party had not expelled him.
“The party has decided to serve Narendra Verma for the position of vice speaker.
He will submit a nomination on Sunday,” said party’s spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary told toi on Saturday.
“Traditionally, the chair goes to the main opposition party but the powerful BJP has thrown all the traditions to the wind by deploying their candidates,” Chaudhary said.
For SP, the Vermination nomination is more a strategic step.
The party, who does not have numbers in the State Assembly to see the Verma itself, see the steps as a win-win situation.
With Narendra Verma, a Kurmi, SP will be able to show off steps as an effort to reach OBC.
On the other hand, if there are ruling party members choosing to support Verma, it will send a strong message that they side with the opposition.
