MUMBAI: BEST announced on Friday that the city is getting 140 “spacious” new buses that are 12 metres in length and also environment friendly as they run on electricity.
The first bus arrived on Friday.
“These are really spacious buses and will provide comfortable AC rides to commuters.
Besides, they are noiseless with good suspension,” said BEST general manager Lokesh Chandra.
BEST expects 25 buses to join the fleet by the month-end.
“All 140 buses will be delivered to us by August-end,” Chandra said.
The buses have a capacity to accommodate 50 passengers and have a lot of leg space and ample space for standees.
They will ply mainly on office routes in south Mumbai.
BEST plans to increase its fleet from 3,300 to over 4,000 buses and is inducting not just AC electric but also 700 more buses including AC Mini and CNG buses in the coming days.
Sources said the new buses will have CCTV surveillance cameras to record 72 hours at a stretch and for women’s safety.
