MADRID: Spaniards donate more organs than other nationalities in the world by 2020 even though the heavy toll of Covid-19 takes the state health system, new data from the Ministry of Health shows on Monday.
Spain has led the world in the level of organ contributions over the past three decades, and 2020 is no exception despite extreme pressure on hospitals that transplant.
Spain is home to only 0.6% of the world population but supplies 5% of all organ transplanted last year, data from the Ministry of Health shows.
The law states that every dead person will donate their organs unless they expressly choose out while still alive in 1979.
Spain has registered 82,470 deaths and 4,693,540 cases of Covid-19 so far during global pandemics.
