Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of the 9th Foundation Day, AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Thursday inaugurated a flexible and pediatric bronchoscopy facility.
This is the first government hospital in Odisha to install sophisticated medical equipment.
Bronchoscopes are used to diagnose and treat respiratory diseases, such as endoscope for gastrointestinal diseases.
Now, most hospitals and medical colleges use a flexible adult bronchoscope to diagnose and treat children’s respiratory disease, but use challenging adult bronchoscopes when used in children.
“Our pediatric flexible bronchoscopy, the first of its kind in Odisha, will greatly help children from all age groups with various types of respiratory diseases,” said Gitanjali Batmanabane, Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, inaugurating service.
This facility has been made in the Paediatrics department and began operating from Thursday itself.
“We are committed to providing optimal care for children during anticipated third wave.
This facility will greatly help us,” said Samarendra Mahapatro, Head of the Pediatric Department, AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
He said children who had recovered from Covid may face post-recovery symptoms and pediatric bronchoscopy would be very helpful to treat patients like that.
Likewise, this institution inaugurates an ocgenation membrane membrane engine upscale (ECMO) (first in general hospitals in Odisha).
This will be functional in a week, an official said.
