Mangaluru: In an effort to clean up encroachment in the path in the city, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has formed a special task unit consisting of officials from income and health section.
The task force, equipped with drivers of the earth, trucks and other vehicles, will start driving from Monday, to clear up encroachment, said Commissioner MCC Akshy Sridhar.
The decision in this case was taken by City Corporation, following the pressure from the Corporators, which insisted that the path must be made free of street vendors and other shrimp.
This problem was discussed at a board meeting held in July, and recently on Friday.
Corporators from Congress in the opposition including Jacintha Vijay Alfred and Pravenchandra Alva, have raised this problem at the Board meeting on Friday.
The corporators demanded City Corporation to act against encroachment and clear encroachment.
Alva has urged City Corporation to train more staff, and get additional vehicles and equipment, to expel vendors who illegally occupy the path, and other encroachment.
The Mayor of Premanand Shetty said that City Corporation had drives against encroachment on the path.
“We will launch a massive drive from Monday, to remove all encroachment in the city.
Officials will not have the pressure of corporators and political leaders, because all corporators demand unanimous sounds, that they will not interfere when officials do the drive to clear encroachment , “he said.
