THANE: As many as 108 prisoners of Thane jail and 100 inmates from the Thane mental hospital were vaccinated in a special drive held by the municipal corporation, Tuesday, informed officials.
The corporation here arranged a special inoculation drive for the jail and mental hospital inmates above the age group of 45, Tuesday in a bid to widen the ambit of vaccination in the city.
Dr Vipin Sharma, Thane municipal commissioner, informed the emphasis of this special drive was to vaccinate those who didn’t have any valid identity proof.
The registration of the beneficiaries was done on the spot in cordination with the jail and hospital authorities.
It may be noted that Thane Civil hospital has till date conducted few drives for the Thane prison inmates and a special vaccination centre had also been operative at the mental hospital premises few days back, informed Dr Kailash Pawar, civil surgeon, Thane.
Meanwhile, the vaccination on wheels initiative has also received good participation from residents, informed Mayor Naresh Mhaske who added that response will be better in the coming days as well.
A vaccination drive was held at Kopri area of Thane on Tuesday.
