Mumbai: Police Road VP caught the ‘Spiderman Thief’ who climbed to the 10th floor of a 22-storey building to enter the Flat Entrepreneur after breaking the bathroom glass window.
The thief entered the flats, opened a closet using a screwdriver and exited the main door flats with cash and gold ornaments worth Lakh Rupee.
The theft occurred in the afternoon when the flat owner with his family went to attend the funeral of his relatives at Bihar.
Police arrested Mukhtar Ali alias Mausam aged 25 years on August 9.
He was produced before a court and was returned in police custody.
Complainants, who entered the stock cleaning business at the CST train station, lived with his family on the 10th floor of a building in the Kumbharwada area near Grant Road.
Renovation work is taking place in the flat before the incident.
In addition, renovation work was also ongoing in the building and bamboo sticks were established throughout the building from the ground floor to the sixth floor.
The complainant approached the police on August 5 and told the incident.
He told the police that he had received information about the death of family members in Bihar and left with his family for Bihar on July 22.
When he returned home on August 5, he found a flat seat door open.
The family also found that the closet lock was opened, cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 12 Lakh was stolen.
He then approached the police and filed FIR.
DCP Rajiv Jain formed a team led by Senior Inspector Hemant Bhaudhankar and Sub-Inspector Dilip Tambe.
“Even though the building has a CCTV camera, it backed up only seven days.
We checked with the building but could not get CCTV footage from the time of the incident,” said an officer.
The police then began using a conventional human intelligence system to find out about the defendant.
During the investigation, the complainant told the police that one person, Mausam, had done repair work in his flat.
The complainant has told him about his departure to Bihar.
Especially before leaving, the wives of the complainant have provided Rs 10,000 to workers as remuneration.
He had seen a bunch of notes in his hand.
“With this information, we started working to track Mausam who had not reported to complete his work.
We got the location in the area when he was looking for a job and arrested him,” the officer said.
The investigator has restored stolen ornaments worth RS seven lakh.
