Sports activities on college campuses

Mangaluru: Sportspersons on campuses in universities are very happy as regular training stalled because the pandemic has now continued.
Only a few sports competitions were held during the last 18 months on the campuses of education.
Gerald Santhosh D’Souza, Director, Physical Education, Mangalore University (MU), said that for now, MU will only focus on an important annual inter-university event.
The season will begin on November 27 with a swimming competition.
“We have chosen sports events based on priority and importance.
As planned, most of the events will be held in February next year,” he said.
At the inter-university event, Santhosh said that currently they have received green signals to conduct athletic, cross-country and southern zone hockey tournaments.
“Because of the time constraints, the annual sports calendar will not be followed.
We are obliged to resolve events that are generally spread in eight to nine months in the span of three to four months.
In the last academic year, we can do only a few taluk-level competitions on a small scale, “Santhosh said.
The day ago, the state government allowed PU colleges to conduct sports events on campus.
DDPU C D Jayanna said that the sports calendar for the academic year will be released earlier.
“The meeting with all physical education teachers in the district will be held,” he said.
In sports was ignored because of the pandemic, Dr.
Mohan Alva, Chairperson, the Alva Education Foundation, Moodbidri, said, “The Department of DDPI to Mangalore University does not understand the sporting and athletics program.
While the government is preparing for the third wave, here at Alva, we are preparing Our sportsmen for the state and national level.
It is time for the government to build and give an important meaning of sports, which is the need for hours.
“The school waits for the school order has not received an order that allows the physical training class (PT) or sports competition.
Laxmesh Rai, Tourist Director, Physical Education, Dakshina Kannada, said children could participate in amateur sporting events carried out by private organizations in the district.
“We have not received permission to start the pt class at school,” he said.
However, some schools indeed allow students to play on the ground.
“It’s impossible to make children sit in class all day, without letting them play for some time,” said the Private Principal.
