Pune: almost two years after a signed memorandum of signed, Savitribai Phule Pune University became the first Indian University to start campus in Doha in Qatar.
The first academic year began earlier this month with offline classes for 72 students from various countries, many of them came from India.
MILESTONE INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION (MIE), licensed by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar, has partnered with SPPU to establish the Institute of Higher Education Mie SPPU.
A large number of Indians live and work in Qatar, and although there are at least 16 Indian schools there is no University of India serving higher studies.
The Institute offers a Bachelor of Art, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Business Administration.
Bimalendu Nath, Director of the SPPU Mie Institute of Higher Education, said the campus began officially online on September 15.
“The first few days are for induction and orientation programs.
Actual lectures began online on October 3 and offline classes began on October 17,” he added.
“We have designed our courses with global views.
Every course for four years and students are taught all the fundamental subjects in the early years.
Our idea is that students need to understand the first basics and need time to mature before he chooses the field of specialization .
Also, the new world does not believe in compartmentalization education, therefore the syllabus is quite flexible to accommodate changes in the future, “he added.
Of the 10 faculty posts, nine have been filled and they come from various parts of the country.
The gender ratio to students also supports girls.
