Kingston (Jamaica): American Sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has received a one-month suspension after testing marijuana, the United States anti-doping body said on Friday, putting it aside from 100 meters in Tokyo even though he might still be able to run the relay event later.
The positive test came in the US Olympic trial last month where Richardson formed himself as a gold medal competitor by winning 100m in 10.86 seconds.
“The rules are clear, but this heartbreaking on many levels; hopefully, the acceptance of responsibility and apologies will be an important example for all of us that we can serve overcome our regrettable decisions, despite expensive consequences of this,” USADA CEO Travis Tygart.
Richardson said in a NBC interview about the show today on Friday that the action came during the trial when he dealt with the news of his mother’s death.
“Like I tweeted yesterday, I’m a human.
We are human, I want to be transparent possible with you whether it’s good, is it bad,” said American sprinter.
“But when it came to Sha’carri Richardson there would never be steroids attached to the name Sha’Carri Richardson.
The cost and what the situation is marijuana.” The 30-day ban occupied to the time the adverse results could make Richardson clear to race in the 4x100m relay at the Olympics in the first week of August, if he was chosen by the USATF.
