Colombo: Sri Lanka vaccinated children aged 18 and 19 years against Coronavirus for expanding shots to students.
After starting with parents, Sri Lanka has now vaccinated 57% of the 22 million people.
Vaccination with Pfizer shot began Friday for around 24,000 people in the 18-19 age group in the capital of Colombo and the suburbs.
Officials say inoculation in Colombo will be completed within 21 days and they will begin to provide doses in other parts of the country next week.
Sri Lanka lifted the six-week lock on October 1 after Covid-19 cases and death decreased.
But the school remains closed, an unintentional trip outside the house is limited, public meetings are prohibited and there are transportation limits.
At its peak, Sri Lanka counted 3,000 daily infections and more than 200 deaths.
Everyday cases are now under 1,000 and deaths below 100.
The nation of the Island of the Indian Ocean has reported more than 529,000 cases and 13,408 deaths.
