Colombo: Sri Lanka on Friday again extended its national lock until October 1, in the midst of a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases and installation pressure from medical officers to increase the efforts against the third wave of Coronavirus.
The government made a decision after a top-level meeting chaired by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Friday.
President Gotabhaya has ordered 10 days locking on August 20.
Lockdown will be appointed on September 21 after what some authorities say in the number of infections and the number of deaths.
In the midst of criticism that locking is not strictly charged, health authorities demanding the extension claim the island has not yet come out of the danger zone.
The President’s office on Friday said locking was extended until October 1.
The third wave experienced by the island country since mid-April has turned off.
Toll deaths are below 700 to 30, close to 12,000 marks on Thursday.
Hemantha Herath’s Deputy Director of Health Services told reporters on Thursday that the current level of around 2,300 cases of everyday was unbearable.
“We have to reduce the current number further.
There is time when all the new cases we found were returning from abroad without local identified patients”.
“We need to go back to the level when we only find around 100 cases every day.
I don’t know how far we will succeed in doing it, but we have to try, because if we can’t handle 2,300 days it must be clear that we cannot handle something higher than that “.
Sri Lanka, who has witnessed a series of locking and curfew to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country, has been influenced in terms of its economy.
The tourism sector, which produces large amounts of revenue for the island state, has decreased a drastic decline.
On Thursday, Sri Lanka has recorded 11,817 deaths while the total infection reached 498,694.
