Colombo: Sri Lanka has launched a luxury train service that connects Jaffna District dominated by Tamil in the country to Capital City Colombo with the help of credit lines offered by India, in other important landmarks in bilateral bonds.
Service Rail Intercity with all facilities launched on Sundays for passengers traveling from the outskirts of Mount Lavinia Colombo to the edge of the Port of Kanksesanthurai Jaffna in the north, covering a distance of around 386 km.
The Indian High Commission here is called “another important landmark in the Indian-Sri Lanka bond”.
“Adhering to the train infrastructure in the future !! Train services launched today to the northern province highlighted the 2 main pillars of Indian development partnerships with Sri Lanka – infrastructure development and focus throughout the country,” he said on Twitter.
India has provided several diesel diesel units (AC DMUS) under loan facilities.
Transportation Minister Sri Lanka Wanniarachchi who made its first trip, was welcomed by the Deputy High Commissioner of India Vinod K Jacob at Fort Colombo Station during the inaugural ceremony.

Train services will cross the island nation, connect Colombo with Kankesanthurai at the northern tip of Jaffna Peninsula, which has a population of the majority of Tamil.
Wannearchchi thanked the Indian government because of its sustainable support for Sri Lanka in handling ongoing pandemics.
Supply of several air-conditioned diesel units are only one of the many train projects carried out by India in Sri Lanka, said the Indian High Commission, adding that there are also other sustainable projects, which include passenger coach supplies below the Indian line below the Indian line below the outline.

The total portfolio of Indian development in Sri Lanka is more than USD 3.5 billion, where around USD 570 million is a pure grant project, the Indian mission said in a statement.
