Colombo: For the first time, the Sri Lankan central bank has scored two gold and one silver warning coins to mark a hundred years of the Chinese Communist Party and celebrate the 65th warning from bilateral relations with Beijing.
The last time the gold coin was issued by Sri Lanka in 1998 to celebrate the commemoration of 50 years of independence from England.
This was for the first time that Sri Lankan had issued coins to honor foreign country political parties.
“Coins have been issued at the request of the government as award for old friendship and mutual trust between the two countries,” said the bank.
Warning coins consist of RS 1,000 denominations.
In 2012, the central bank has issued nickel-plated silver coins to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Japan.
The ruling Communist Party in China celebrates the 100-year anniversary on Thursday in Tiananmen Square, with thousands of party workers and school children singing songs praising the party and country.
Overcoming a hundred-year celebration, President Xi Jinping called for a strong military to defend the country and warned that Chinese people would never allow foreign forces to “bully, oppress, or subdue them”.
Founded by Mao Zedong on July 1, 1921, the CPC formally completed 100 years of existence on Thursday.
It also remained in power because the Chinese People’s Republic (PRC) was formed in 1949.
