Ramanathapuram: On the way continued against Indian fishermen crossing into the waters of Sri Lanka, the Navy Navy was holding 12 of them from Rameswaram along with two of their trawles when they were fishing near Talaimannar on Saturday.
Minister of Man Chief M K Stalin wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday to release 41 fishermen including 12.
Everything came from the coastal village of Thangachimadam with nine men in one boat and three in one boat.
Navy Sri Lanka said in a statement that the fishermen were detained by the North Navy Command (NCNC) when they crossed the international maritime boundary (IMBL) and were fishing in the North Sea Talaimannar.
It stated that Commander Navy Deputy Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne directed NCNC to improve operational efficiency and emphasized the importance of limiting illegal fishing practices and ensuring the security of Sri Lankan waters.
This requires the total number of Rameswaram fishermen who were arrested in Sri Lanka this month to 23 after 11 fishermen were arrested along with three trawles near Delft Island in Jaffna on February 7.
Relatives detained by their men and ships.
Meanwhile, Minister of Stalin’s chairman said the recurrent arrest and harassment had caused an insecurity to the fisherman community.
“When the Covid situation has subsided, I ask you to resume deliberation through the JWG Working Group meeting (JWG) soon.
Furthermore, the talks between fishermen from the two countries can also be facilitated to alleviate tensions in the area.” He added.
Founder of PMK Ramadoss Tweeted that so far 44 fishermen of TN have been captured by Navy Sri Lanka in two weeks.
Pressing for their direct release, he asked the government if there was no end of the arrest.
