Abu Dhabi: Sri Lanka bowed from the T20 World Cup on Thursday with coach Mickey Arthur claiming the “destroyed” team after 250 days in the last 11 months was spent locked in bubble Covid-19.
Sri Lanka, who was the champion in 2014, handled the 2016 West Indian winner in their last group match after winning one of their four super matches.
They also had to play three qualifying matches in the first week of the tournament last month.
“People are really destroyed.
They gave them all for this campaign,” Arthur said.
Before arriving for the World Cup, Sri Lanka played the T20 series in West Hindland and England and organized India and South Africa.
“We’ve been on the road for a long time.
In the last 11 months we have been in bubbles for around 250 days,” Arthur added.
“And these people are destroyed and physically.
But they wake up tomorrow because they want to end high.” Sri Lanka got their Super 12 campaign with the start flying with a five-goal victory over a fellow Bangladesh qualifying.
However, they then lost to four nose to South Africa and seven goals against Australia before going up to England with 26 walks.
There are individual highlights.
Four of their batsmen had made half-centuries with the opening of 23 years of Pathum Nissanka won two years and fifts.
Wanindu Hasaranga, the 24-year-old spinner team, has become one of the revelations of the tournament with 14 goals with a surprising average just below 10.
“I think we have shaken the team.
I think we have pushed the team,” Arthur said.
“We have some excellent young players who only need consistency in the message.
They need consistency in the selection.
And they need to be given a platform to go and play.” I think we have allowed them wings to fly.
