COLOMBO: Sri Lankan police said Thursday they’re getting ready for the Travels situation of a potential oil slick in the burnt-out freight boat sinking off Colombo’s primary harbour.
The Marine Environment Protection Authority readied oil dispersants, booms and skimmers in the event of a flow from the MV X-Press Pearl, that has almost 350 tonnes of petroleum in its gas tanks.
The boat, which burnt for 13 days in sight of this island’s west shore, has caused the nation’s worst marine ecological catastrophe, littering the shores with enormous amounts of dust pollution.

He explained that there wasn’t any visible indication of eucalyptus oil leaking out of the boat.
However, some oil has been seen close to the shores of Negombo, roughly 40 kilometres from Colombo, even though it wasn’t clear when it had been out of the stricken ship.
The inundation of microplastic granules in the boat containers has forced a fishing ban and motivated concern to the wildlife and surroundings.
Officials think the blaze destroyed many of the almost 1,500 containers onboard.

The fire was finally extinguished with the support of all India’s coastguard, Sri Lanka’s navy and also the Dutch salvage company SMIT.

Authorities said three officers in the boat, two Russians and an Indian, was contested along with their passports impounded.
The boat was heading into Colombo in Gujarat in India as soon as the battle started.
