Mumbai: When students struggle to return to their normal writing speed in a pandemic, the State Education Board of Maharashtra has decided to provide extra time for the SSC and HSC theory exam.
Students will get half an extra hour for paper questions mark 70-80-100 and 15 minutes more for paper 40-50-60-mark in the council exam.
Instead of the usual schedule of 11:00 to start at 10:30 this year.
The detailed test schedule was released by the board on Tuesday.
“Because students have attended online classes, they lose speed writing practices.
Based on feedback from school, the council has decided to give extra time to try a paper,” said Sharad Gosavi, chairman of the State Council, added that they had loosened the duration even in March 2021 But the exam was never done because of the second wave of pandemic.
After schools be reopened, many students face difficulties in writing at adequate speed and with accuracy.
“The test is also conducted online for almost two years and mostly in the MCQ format (multiple choice questions).
Many cannot resist the pen for a longer time.
This trend, however, can prove the detrimental students who appear for the board exam,” said a teacher.
Saba Patel, Principal, Anjuman-i-Islam in Bandra, said in written physical tests carried out recently in his school, some SSC students got a one-digit score.
“Students take longer to write a few sentences and even then, they make a mistake,” he said.
Representatives of Sudha Shenoy’s parents said students had not used a pen and paper for almost two years.
“The state government initiative to provide extra time will definitely help students up to some extent,” he said.
Meanwhile, after the schedule was released, the teacher has raised concerns about the test date that clashed with corporate elections and Zilla Parishad.
“Deputy teacher is in charge of elections.
How are they expected to conduct examinations if they simultaneously representatives for training and work related to other elections?” Asked Rajesh Pandya from the Teacher’s Democratic Front.
