VARANATION: The newborn initial hearing filtering program has begun in the ENT department, Sir Sunneral Hospital, Hindu Banaras University under the Principal Investigator Dr.
Vishwambar Singh and the Head of the Department of Prof.
Rajesh Kumar.
They claim that this is the first of its kind.
Done in each Uttar Pradesh medical college.
This test allows doctors to detect hearing loss within 72 hours of birth.
It is being carried out under the Institute of Eminence.dr Singh Project saying that hearing problems in children can occur at any age, but children who cannot hear since childhood can never speak.
And about 50% of such children who have been deaf from birth, can be treated.
But the best is the treatment is done as early as possible.
Filtering is needed for early diagnosis and treatment.
He said that this program was directed at early detection of hearing status in newborns in Varanasi and neighboring districts.
He urged the masses to bring newborn children on Monday and Tuesday to the hospital for discraning.
If they are tested before the age of three months, the operation can be done at the age of six months.
Children who cannot hear, can live a normal life after cochlear implant surgery.
