Chennai: The chairman of Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday begged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider the demand for the Tamil Nadu government for state liberation from the Eligibility-medical exam (NEET) for medical education.
Stalin took the inauguration platform of 11 new medical colleges by the Prime Minister to reaffirm his request for the release of Neet.
However, the Minister of Health Modi and Union, Mansukh L Mandaviya responded to the request.
“Tamil Nadu acceptance policy plays a very important role in our health infrastructure.
This is to protect this that we have continued to demand the exception of NEET for Tamil Nadu.
I begged the United Government to consider our request,” Stalin said.
The bill to free the country from Neet, unanimously passed by the state legislature in September, still not called by Governor R N Ravi to President Ram Nath Kovind.
Meeting of all legislative parties, chaired by Stalin recently, decided to take further action through legal ways.
CM said student admission policies from the MNS government have helped doctors serve in rural areas and in government services.
Instead, many countries face doctors’ shortcomings.
TN has become a role model in the health sector with government medical colleges offering a high number of seats on UG and PG courses.
“Our principle is to ensure that rural and poor students get opportunities,” he said and added that to protect the principle, the state must be given liberation from NEET.
He said that opening medical colleges in each district was the dream of CM M.
He demanded to build a new AIIM in Coimbatore and accelerate the work of AIIMS, Madurai.
He also looked for new medical colleges in six districts, the elimination of all Indian quotas for the country-funded medical institutions and 50% order of seats in super special courses in government medical colleges for candidates in service, additional funds under the NHM and the establishment of home district headquarters Pain in 19 districts among others.
