METTUR: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Saturday morning opened the sluice gates of the Stanley reservoir in Mettur.
Initially, 3,000 cusecs of water was being released from the dam for kuruvai cultivation in delta districts.
“The quantum of water being released will be increased to 10,000 cusecs on Saturday evening,” Stalin said.
It would be further increased in the coming days based on the requirement in the delta regions, he added.
The chief minister said that close to 5.21 lakh acres of fertile land in the delta districts would be benefited.
“The Tamil Nadu government will take steps to increase the area of kuruvai cultivation,” he said.
The state government would achieve sustainable development in the next 10 years, he added.
