Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday seeks Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in stating eight state roads as a national highway, by saying this principle agreement has been given in this matter.
Chief Minister M K Stalin told Modi that the approval of the principle had been given by the Ministry of Road Transportation and Jalan Raya (Morus) for the conversion of 500 km which was eight roads of the state highway as a national highway.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Stalin said sanctions had also been given to the preparation of detailed project reports (DPR) and determined the road in the dispute.
“Therefore, research has been taken for the preparation of the House of Representatives for the streets above under the annual plan 2017-18 by the wing of the national highway state.
The proposal for the road declaration has also been submitted to the Ministry of Transport and Highway (Mort & H.) on 06.12.2018.
“” However, formal notification for the declaration of these roads as a new national highway has not been issued by the Ministry, “Stalin added.
All eight roads are very important, connecting a significant pilgrimage center such as Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchendur and Palani, a large trade and tourist center, he said.
Therefore, these streets need immediate improvement to meet the needs of road users, Stalin shows.
CM said he had been informed that Mort was compiling a guideline for the development of a new national highway.
However, because these eight roads have been given a principle approval, they can be informed as a national highway without waiting for the guidelines.
“Therefore, I ask you to direct Morus to issue the necessary notice that states eight roads of this country as a new national highway and to entrust development work with the state government with the necessary funds,” he said.
