KOLKATA: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday stated many bodies have jumped into the country downstream river Ganga by Uttar Pradesh and contaminated the oceans.
She pointed out that the decomposed bodies have been seen from the lake from Malda district, along with the state authorities has”completed the last rites of a number of these”.
“Many bodies have sailed downstream to West Bengal out of Uttar Pradesh.
In Malda, we’ve seen a number of bodies.
We completed the last rites of a number of these due respect,” Banerjee told reporters in the state secretariat.
River Ganga flows throughout the countries of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal before eventually meeting the Bay of Bengal.
A couple bloated corpses were floating in the lake from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar amid the ferocious next wave of this Covid-19 pandemic, sparking fear among sailors that rely upon the Ganga for agricultural functions and other essential requirements.
