Coimbatore: An unidentified man relieves St.
Sebastian’s statue at the Holy Trinity Church in Ramanathapuram in Coimbatore on Sunday night.
The police said two unidentified men came with two-wheeled vehicles around 10pm.
One of them scales a compound wall and enters the church building.
Using bricks, he ruined the glass cover around St Sebastian’s statue at the church entrance.
Then he relieved the statue with bricks.
The security of the church heard a voice and rushed to that place.
When he saw security, the man escaped on two-wheeled with another man.
Security warns of Church authorities, which in turn tells the city police.
A team from the Ramanathapuram police station reached the place and conducted an investigation.
“We are in the process of checking CCTV recordings collected from the nearest company to identify criminals.
We have received complaints from Father Bastian Joseph and submitted a case,” said a police officer.
Cases are listed under the IPC 295 section (injuring or playing places of worship with the intention of insulting the religion of each class), 427 (damage causes small damage) and 441 (criminal violations).
