JAMSHEDPUR: City steel police have arrested 64 people and confiscated more than 400GM brown sugar and more than 63 kg of marijuana during the trip for six months against drug trafficking from January to June.
SSP M Tamil Valan said most of the arrests made of the Jugsalai area, Sitaramdera and the Mango Police Station, although arrest and seizures have also been reported in the Bistupur area, Burmamines, Kadma, Sonari and Bagbera.
He added, “Collection and intelligence patrols in several regions of the police station are accelerated after the initial seizures and this helps strengthen the system of alert and thus, leads to arrest.” Valan further said that they had submitted a case under the relevant parts of the drugs of narcotics and psychotropic substances, 1985.
Police were surprised after seeing the number of women arrested for being involved in red sugar racquets.
Of all the women arrested until now, nine had been forwarded to prison.
The police did not rule out the fact that smugglers used women to peddling drugs to sanctify the police assuming that the police would not suspect women.
Asked about the reasons behind the occurrence of drug trafficking in the city, a police inspector who chose anonymity said, “The closeness of the city with cities such as Adityapur, Chandil, Chaibasa and Ghatshila provide easy access to smugglers here which is the main reason for drug pitching cases It has risen.

Meanwhile, the rehabilitation center here named Crisis Intervention Center (CIC), is also known to say that the number of young people who are drug addicts have risen in the middle of a pandemic.
“During the past year, on the average, six addicts, including alcoholics and drug addicts, have visited our center every day for counseling,” said Coordinator CIC Kumar Kumar.
He said that from 20 addicts now admitted in the middle, 12 were in the age group 18 to 30 years.
“Some addicts also pamper small crimes to regulate drug funds,” Kanchan added.
Dr.
Mahesh Hapesh, who specializes in alcoholism addiction and drug addiction, said mental pressure caused by various types of losses, both financial or personal, as long as Covid is also one of the factors that encourage contraband consumption in the city.
“Stress related to Covid has contributed a little in encouraging young people to addiction,” he said.
He added that every month, on average, 30 people who suffered drug addiction came to him to help.
