Gurgaon: Protest against Friday prayers in the open sector 47 has been suspended for now.
The decision was taken after meeting residents with deputy commissioners, who convinced them to a solution by Diwali.
Over the past few weeks, people have objected to Friday prayers in the open side by singing the channeling song and doing Durga Aarti near the land at the same time.
They have shouted slogans like “Namaz Ki Korah Khaali Karo” and “Bharat Ki Jai’s eyes”, pushing the police to shift the church around 300 meters on the same land.
On Monday, a group of residents led by Sunil Yadav, Sector President 47 Rwa, met Deputy Commissioner Yash Garg and urged him to shift prayer.
“He listened to our complaints and promised to solve the problem in the next few weeks.
He then told us to suspend our protest,” Yadav said, added that they had decided to give administration time until Diwali found a solution.
Local council members of Kuldeep Yadav, who also participated in protests, said they had requested administration to find alternative sites.
“Administration can provide room in non-housing areas,” he added.
Members of the Muslim community have mentioned protest efforts by several “to get political mileage”.
“Not everyone who protested was a resident.
Political people also mixed.
You cannot use religion as a tool to block other community prayers,” Altaf Ahmed said, one of the founders of Gurgaon Nagrik Ekta MANSH.
