Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday told the Maharashtra government to stop political demonstrations against the Covid-19 protocol.
“We will not let this happen, we turn off the court.
We are not functioning in full force, but political demonstrations are ongoing,” said the judicial head of the Datta Datta and Justice Girish Kulkari while hearing litigation of public interest in Covid-19 management.
The judges refer to the protest rally for naming Navi Mumbai airport and noted that there were 25,000 participants.
“How do you manage Covid? Is it time for a general meeting? The last rally passed the airport naming.
Can it not wait until Covid ends?” CJ asked.
The judges also questioned whether the airport was ready to operate.
“Nothing.
First name, then airport.
And you assemble so many people..25,000 people!” CJ exclaimed.
Advocate Rajesh Inamdar, for a Petitioner, refers to OBC reservation protesting the demonstration.
The judges also referred to protesting Maratha.
“When will political leaders go before voters and say ‘the problem is before the court, the highest court on the ground.
It has the last word, not the government’,” CJ said.
The judges also asked whether political leaders were not equivalent to those who held a fake vaccination camp.
“Do they lack fake vaccination camp? They tried to take mileage for political benefits.
Why? Leave (demonstration) waiting for some time,” CJ said.
Inamdar said the highest Delta variant was in Maharashtra with 21 cases to date.
He saw Japan see the fifth wave of Covid-19 and English fourth wave.
“These countries cannot overcome them,” he added.
The judges said there were lessons to learn from the second wave in India.
” We all have to take lessons from the second wave.
, Everything is normal since November.
We’re invaded, “CJ regretted.
