Kolkata: It may take a few more days – maybe until midweek next week – to reopen the whole strand road for traffic.
Kolkata Municipal Corporation which began repairing the road after the demolition of Posta’s flyover had calculated several problems raised by the Traffic Guard of the Howrah bridge regarding the stretch of 250 meters between Mirbarai Ghat Street Crossing in Strand Road.
Traffic police have met officials who were appointed by KMDA and KMC road department in the last two days and they jointly checked Strand roads.
The police showed that the stretch had become uneven and in some places, where equipment was placed for demolition work, deep crates had appeared due to rain.
The police said that the movement of trucks on this stretch could cause accidents and frequent shaft trunks.
The police have also shown officials that 20 street lights and CCTV cameras installed on posts have been removed for work.
“We have explained our concern in detail to Civic’s body officials and begged them to speed up work so we can reopen all stretches in the middle of next week.
The MG road takes a heavy vehicle load with all bus routes to Girish Park from Howrah Plying on this stretch .
With most of the way Vivekananda closed for the second phase of demolition work Flyover Posta and some way make a way for this, the traffic police in Kolkata was under pressure.

KMC officials want more time to complete work.
The first task, they said, was leveling the road by removing the top layer and filling the crater.
“We will not look for a comprehensive overhaul from the road because of the rain of intermittent,” said an official.
